Meaning in plain language
Lineage is a documented connection among teachers, schools or communities. A modern service label may instead describe a movement, product or setting. Those are different kinds of information.
The important distinction
Do not infer a lineage from décor, practitioner ethnicity or a country name. Ask about actual teaching and the specific method.
A concrete massage example
“Gentle clothed shiatsu, mostly palm pressure, no forceful stretches” gives the provider a clear starting point. Ask whether that version matches their training and available equipment.
How it relates to shiatsu
Contact can feel like a sequence of settled pressures and releases rather than continuous rubbing. A broad palm and a thumb create different sensations even at similar effort. Stillness between contacts may be as noticeable as the pressure.
Choosing the setting
A floor-based method needs clean, adequate mat space; a table adaptation requires training and support. Hotel guests should not move heavy furniture or accept an unstable bed arrangement to imitate a studio setup.
For a fuller explanation, read the shiatsu guide. The movement reference explains vocabulary; specialist availability still requires confirmation.
